Grief & loss therapy for adults in Upper Arlington and Columbus, Ohio
There Is No One "Right" Way to Grieve
Grief and loss can affect every part of your life, and there is no single “right” way to grieve. You may experience sadness, anger, guilt, loneliness, numbness, or a sense of disbelief, sometimes shifting unexpectedly from one day to the next. Grief can make it difficult to concentrate, sleep, maintain relationships, or feel motivated to engage in everyday activities. You may also find yourself questioning your identity, your sense of purpose, or what life looks like after a significant loss. Whether you are grieving the death of someone you love, the end of a relationship, a major life transition, or another meaningful loss, the experience can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and the world around you. Therapy can offer a compassionate space to process your loss, honor what has been meaningful, and gradually explore how to move forward while continuing to carry the significance of what—and who—you have lost.
Making Space for Your Loss While Finding a Way Forward
Rather than viewing grief as something you need to “get over,” we can work toward developing a compassionate relationship with your pain and allow difficult emotions to be present without letting them define or control your life. We’ll make space for both the bigger questions that can emerge during grief—meaning, identity, purpose, and how your loss has changed your experience of life—while also attending to the practical challenges of getting through each day. This might mean finding ways to navigate difficult emotions while going to work, maintaining relationships, caring for yourself, and managing the responsibilities of everyday life. Together, we can honor what has been lost while exploring how you might carry that loss with you and continue creating a life that feels meaningful and authentic.
